Women in the spotlight - step 4

Hostellerie d'Orzival

Ida and Louisa Rey were the first operators of the Hôtel Orzival, starting in 1957.

Before that, Ida, Mr. Rey's daughter, ran a boarding house with a few rooms upstairs in the chalet “Le Bosquet”, until the mid-fifties.

After the death of her parents in 1954, the land to the north-west of the property devolved to her. She decided to build and run a hotel there, occasionally assisted by her sister Louisa. Together, they already ran a crockery store in Sierre.

The opening of the hotel in 1957 marked the beginning of tourism in Vercorin.
At last! Travelers and skiers would be able to stay and relax on site.

From the hotel's terrace, there was a direct, uninterrupted view of the finish line of the first Coujon ski lift, which was the attraction on sunny winter days for holidaymakers and locals alike.

In 1961, Ida Rey decided to extend the dining room by building a rotunda to the west of the building. This allowed guests to enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire Rhone plain, as well as the hillside, the Crans-Montana high plateau and the Valais and Bernese Alps.

In October 1966, Mademoiselle Ida Rey passed away. In the spring of 1967, it was decided to appoint a manager to run the hotel. This was to be Mr. Charly de Rivaz until June 1969, when the Hostellerie d'Orzival was sold to the Fischer - Frölicher family for their hotelier daughter Marlen and her husband.

At the end of the seventies, the hotel again passed into the hands of the Les Anémones company, of which Mr. Arnaldo Corvasce was the main partner and, after a few years, the sole owner.
