Women in the spotlight - step 7

Tourist business office (Bureau d’affaires touristiques)

Édouard Vallet was born in Geneva in 1876. He discovered the Valais in 1908 in Hérémence, and also spent time in Savièse and Riod. In 1912, he and his wife Marguerite, also an artist, bought a house in Vercorin.

The couple stayed there regularly for part of the year, and Édouard continued to visit and work there after Marguerite's death in 1918. He drew his inspiration from landscapes and scenes of local life, depicting men and women at work, but also at rest, or during the religious ceremonies that mark village life.

Édouard Vallet made extensive use of etching (engraving on copper), and even had a press set up in Vercorin so that he could print his engravings himself. It can still be seen at the Fondation Édouard Vallet.
