This year, for its film club, led by Danielle Coquoz, La Véranda has chosen Central Asia as the setting for its films.

What can films from far away Central Asia tell us? Stories of wild horses, family dramas in overheated yurts, metaphysical quests across the immensity of the steppes? Certainly, certainly. But this cinema also tells us about the difficult synthesis between a traditional world, already shaken and modified by seventy years of Soviet life, and our industrial, mercantile and urban modernity, which is imposing itself from all sides. In this part of the world, too, cinema is indeed an art form that holds up a sharp and abundant mirror to the spectator of his time.
