Discover the history and multiple functions of the Bisses! In the heart of the village of Botyre (Ayent), the Musée valaisan des Bisses leads you into the fascinating world of thses traditional irrigation canals, from Roman times to the present day.
In a historic building dating from the 17th century, 270m2 of exhibition space will help you appreciate the decisive role of the Bisses in the development of the region. Thanks to reconstructions, hundreds of objects and over 1000 documents, water management in the Valais will no longer hold any secrets for you! Inside and outside the Museum, an interactive scenography allows children to familiarise themselves with the irrigation techniques still used today.
Inaugurated in 2018, the Opale Foundation is the only contemporary art centre dedicated to the promotion of Aboriginal art in Europe. It proposes a dialogue between cultures and peoples through art. The foundation is based on the Bérengère Primat Collection, which currently includes more than 1,100 works by nearly 250 artists, making it one of the most important collections of contemporary Aboriginal artists in private hands. Each year it presents a main exhibition over a period of 10 months, with three parallel exhibitions in its Special Focus space. Each exhibition is supported by a comprehensive programme of events including children's and adult workshops, themed tours, residencies, lectures, artist talks, concerts, performances and academic research projects. In the art centre, the restaurant L'Opale offers regional cuisine, highlighting local and seasonal products, as well as a terrace with a breathtaking view of Lake Louché and the Valais panorama.
