Heritage Day – School classes in action in Réchy

Throughout the school year, they have been working with their teachers on the village’s heritage. They have read extensively, studied, visited local sites and prepared what they will present to their parents, local residents and visitors who will be in Réchy on the day.
Following a route past the village’s historic landmarks, they will enthusiastically share their knowledge through short plays, round dances, texts, photos and other creative works.

At the end of the day, at 5 pm, the local authorities will join all the pupils and their teachers in the village square for a grand finale, capped off with a song composed especially for this ‘Classes in Action’ day celebrating local heritage!

The pupils will guide visitors through six iconic sites in Réchy, each representing a chapter in the village’s history: the Chapel of Saint-Mathias, Réchy Castle, the former Consomme, the River Réchy, the coal mines and the old school. Their presentations last an average of 15 minutes, taking place four times during the afternoon according to a set schedule, and begin at 1.30 pm in front of the Saint-Mathias Chapel.

During the afternoon, a stand on Place de Praniviers will showcase various publications on local heritage. Furthermore, beneath the Chapel of Saint-Mathias, the family trees of the founding members from 1826 will be on display to the public. Finally, along the Meyen bisse, posters will showcase the history of the coal mines. Heritage Day will conclude with all the pupils and the local community gathering at 5 pm in front of Saint-Mathias Chapel for a final song, a message from the local authorities and a toast!
